Accusers stepped forward in 2018, as the #MeToo movement was taking off. Victims of sexual violence, consequently, often say they feel less isolated than they used to. Join us on Twitter and FacebookThere is, perhaps, one way in which the detractors of the #MeToo movement have a point. All of them — colleagues, neighbors or blood relations — more often than not, are able to maintain their status and privilege of their professions, despite allegations of sexual violence. It remains unclear whether the French will at long last “cancel” Gérard Depardieu, even if one or both trials find him guilty of sexual violence.

REUTERS/Gonzalo Fuentes Acquire Licensing RightsPARIS, Nov 9 (Reuters) - French actor Catherine Deneuve kicked off the holiday shopping season in Paris on Thursday, presiding over a ribbon-snipping ceremony for the Christmas window displays of department store Printemps. The Boulevard Haussmann store was outfitted with tags that fluttered under the awning, while puppet seagulls and owls made of paper flapped in the windows among piles of wish lists. Cooler weather in October and November contributed to a rebound in sales, however, according to Stephane Roth, general manager marketing, communication and architecture of the Printemps group. As for holiday meals, Deneuve said it was best to "stick with the classics", including foie gras and chestnuts.

The DVD business destroyed competitors like Blockbuster and altered the viewing habits of the public. Once Netflix began its streaming business and then started producing original content, it transformed the entire entertainment industry. Even before the strikes, streaming had rendered DVDs obsolete, at least from a business perspective. In comparison, Netflix’s streaming revenue for the same period reached $6.5 billion. (One hundred people at Netflix still work on the DVD side of the business, though most will soon be leaving the company.)
